Apple iPhone 14 ditches the SIM card slot in favour of e-SIMs

During the "Far Out" event that took place on September 7, 2022, Apple revealed the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus to the public. It would not be difficult to confuse these products with their predecessors, with the exception of the larger 6.7-inch model.

Apple has advanced these foundational models with a number of user-facing updates and quality of life enhancements despite making only minor exterior changes. Customers can see a consistent pattern of features and costs across the entire range of iPhone 14 models, despite the fact that the Pro versions got more substantial updates that increased the gap between them and the base models.

iPhone 14 Features

Apple has persisted with offering comparable feature sets across models in the same device class. Consequently, the larger iPhone 14 Plus is not differentiated from the standard iPhone 14 in any way other than its larger screen and longer battery life.

Keep in mind that this generation does not have a smaller iPhone. Apple reportedly saw less demand for the smaller 5.4-inch iPhone and opted to replace it with the larger 6.7-inch model.

  • 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays;
  • satellite emergency SOS;
  • Lightning port and notch still there;
  • eSim compatible
  • A15 processor with 5-core GPU

What is an eSim?

An eSim is an industry-standard digital SIM that lets you use your network provider's mobile data plan without having to use a physical SIM. On an iPhone, you can put eight or more eSims in and use two phone numbers at the same time.

Why is eSim choice of Apple?

An embedded SIM, or eSim, is a programmable chip that is built into a smartphone. It has pros and cons, but it is definitely better than the physical SIM. Because the eSim can be reprogrammed and can store more than one unique identifier, this is possible. A smartphone with eSim can store more than one SIM profile. This makes it easier for people who have more than one active connection.

The eSim's secure nature is another benefit. It's permanently embedded, so losing or stealing it won't let anyone utilize it for anything. The eSim simplifies the enrollment and activation processes for overseas travelers' telecommunication connections. However, this feature is only available in countries where eSim is supported by local telecom providers.
